Pothens Public School is an English medium co-educational school established mainly for the benefit of rural children. Situated in the middle of three large villages, Pipalda, Kampel and Pivdai, it is accessible for the children of all the three villages. There are about 15-20 villages more with in the vicinity of 15 kms. From the school and children from several of these villages are attending the school.

 

Pothens Public School was established in the year 2009 under the auspices of Thankamma Memorial Christian Society. Thankamma was the younger sister of Dr. Pothen. She died of cancer at the age of 42 . In her fond memory the society was formed to spread education and enlightenment among  relatively less developed communities. Girls education is particularly encouraged in the school. Along with education, emphasis is given for  character formation and development of moral and ethical values among children .

SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

The School will improve the communication skill of students in such a way that

by the end of the academic year every student will be able to read, write and express

both in Hindi and English. To achieve this class libraries will be set up, every week a

definite number of words will be taught in each class and spelling,reading, writing and

speech competition will be held frequently.

We have classes from Nursery  to Class XII.

 

Admission is open for all the classes depending upon the availability of seats. Admission form can be bought from the school. It should be carefully filled and signed by the parent / guardian.

Admission to Nursery and K.G classes can be given on the basis of Birth Certificate from Panchayat or Municipality For all other classes, Mark List and Transfer Certificate from the previous school is needed.

The child must have completed Two and a half Years on or before July Ist for getting admitted in Nursery.

Fees is to be paid in 3 installments,

The school follows CBSE pattern of studies in all classes.

School provides bus facility to children who need it. Stops are fixed in each village and it is the responsibility of the parents to reach children at the stop on time. If the child is late, he/ she should be dropped at the school by the parent. They should be collected from the stop also when they return. 10 months bus fee will be charged from all children who travel by bus. Children from near by places may be dropped by parents or can walk down to school. Children can ride bicycle to school. Motor cycles or any other such vehicles are not allowed for children.

School provides a lot of facilities for co-curricular activities.

All national festivals are celebrated in the school. Teachers’ Day and Children’s day also are celebrated with much gusto and enthusiasm. Several competitions are held through out the year to encourage children’s creative talents. Children do excellent work in drawing , flower making, mehndi, rangoli, and so on.

A Food Mela is organized once a year which is thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Children prepare excellent models and handicraft things. We collect them and arrange an exhibition  once a year.

 

Sports and Physical Training

School has good facilities for out door and in door games. We have courts for

Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Cricket, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho , Foot Ball, etc. We have a well qualified physical instructor who looks after the sports activities. Sports competitions are organized and winners are awarded prizes and certificates. Yoga classes are held. On Saturdays we have mass P. T. for the junior classes. March Past is held on national festivals.

 

Student Council

In order to develop leadership qualities in children, a student council is formed. Head Girl, Head Boy, House Captains and Prefects are selected from among children and they are given various responsibilities. Children help in maintaining discipline, arranging programs, checking uniforms and so on.
